DEALING WITH EMERGENCIES

The effects of inhalation can appear within minutes and last for up to 40 minutes (unless topped up). A user might feel drowsy for up to 2 hours and appear to be suffering from no more than a headache. Cardiac Arrhythmia is a common consequence of volatile substance abuse and medical treatment must be sought immediately. However, symptoms may or may not be noticeable.

IF A PERSON COLLAPSES:

• Remove the inhaling device from the person and check for other individuals who may be affected
• Call out to the person and touch them on the shoulder to see if they are conscious. If they're not, call an ambulance (111) and follow the operator's advise
• Check airways are not obstructed, if they are, clear them with your fingers
• Check the person is breathing and has a pulse. If not perform CPR (mouth-to-mouth resuscitation).
